It has certainly been a big year for me so far and there is still a quarter of the year remaining!
On 1st August, my Biz Partner Tracey, and I signed the lease on our perfect workspace.
We had been looking at a different shop that had just come up for sale (in it’s entirety) – Burrum Heads is a very small community, so there are not a lot of options – but the value of the stock in that particular business, was very high and the products weren’t what we were keen on selling, so we were, as you can imagine, very hesitant.
We considered it carefully and wondered if we could move the stock quickly so that we could introduce our own stock. The current owner was very strict about the conditions of sale and wouldn’t budge, so we backed off h0ping that she would tire of waiting for the ‘perfect’ buyer, and decide to negotiate with us.
Meanwhile, we heard about this other space that had just been taken over, behind the main shopping area, and went to have a look. We were in awe of how large it was and how it would be perfect for our own needs, but this woman had only just signed the lease and looked well set in with her art and craft business, while running art workshops in the partitioned off room.
We felt disappointed that we didn’t know that the space even existed prior to this and were envious of her set up.
That’s when I decided to ‘MANIFEST’.
I wrote a long story about what I would do with this space. I wrote positive affirmations stating that ‘no matter what, this space would be mine’ and stuck them around my office. I talked about it ALL THE TIME with Tracey and then joined some groups on social media that taught and encouraged positive thinking and manifesting and creating businesses.
Well, six weeks later, on a Tuesday morning, I was sitting with a bunch of friends enjoying our weekly coffee morning, when a lady stopped to chat with us and told us how sad she was because her art class was ending and the woman was moving her business into Hervey Bay.
I gasped and my eyes lit up!
As soon as our coffee morning was over, I rushed to the shop to get the goss from the owner and she told me that she was breaking the lease to take up a great opportunity in the Bay. Right next door was the Real Estate office, so I stopped by there to get a few details and then excitedly rushed to Tracey’s house to enthusiastically calculate the types of income we could generate in the space.
We decided on a retail area selling our favourite products, such as Canzoni wallets and handbags, Ivy’s handbags, snap jewellery and the jewellery that I was selling here on the website, Cinnamon brand timber jewellery and Ironclay, just to name a few.
Next up, we wanted a Training Room where we could run workshops and courses. Beginner’s Photography and Editing, Interior Design and Styling, Journaling, Vision Boards, Smart Phone/Tablet and other Device workshops etc.
A Treatment room for massage, Reiki, Kinesiology, Journey Work etc.
After a few quick calculations, we decided that we could make a success of this space and we quickly moved to confirm with the Real Estate that we would take over the lease as soon as possible.
In my inexperienced mind, I imagined that we could be up and running inside a couple of weeks.
I soon realised that there was a whole lot more involved than I’d ever imagined! With the help of our partners, friends and family we began the process.
My Adoring Husband moved an entire wall and built the treatment room. We painted six walls. We added lighting and rearranged lighting. We recycled a LOT of furniture and are STILL in the process of re-covering chairs for our training room. We assembled quite a bit of flat pack display cases. We up cycled and repaired display cabinets. We had professional cleaners for windows and carpets. We drilled holes and screwed hooks and created displays. We scoured op shops. We organised insurance, telephone and internet, power, bank accounts, eftpos facilities. We designed a logo for our business and created mock signage until the professional signs arrive. We wrote up a story for the local newsletter and created a flyer for the notice board.
The list goes on.
A MONTH later, while still not perfect and with the treatment room and training room still not complete, we opened our doors for business!
Oh how we love our space. It’s a real pleasure to spend time here and the energy and ambience is absolutely delightful. These are photos recently taken with my phone.
As you can see, the training room and treatment room are not included in these photos because they are not finished yet, nor is our office area here, but we have the lounge area for relaxation and a dining/meeting table in the yellow corner. We play gentle and calming music constantly and we look forward to coming to work every day!
This is ‘The Happy Abode’ and it’s from where I now run this website.
All of this is why Romance Your Life has been so quiet for the last couple of months.
The new plan is to remove all stock for sale, except my photos, from here and eventually move them to the yet to be completed ‘Happy Abode’ website.
Romance Your Life with Roz will be a blogging website. All the pages will remain the same except the shop, which will only hold my photos.
Life is pretty fabulous for me right now, and while we are still a work in progress, the next big deal is a huge celebration for Adoring Husband who turns 60 next month!
I’ll definitely need a holiday after that … and it just so happens that I have a road trip planned with my BFF for Nov/Dec.
What a year!
